Eating at Stegastein — bring your own
There is no café or kiosk at Stegastein — a car park and a seasonal toilet, nothing sold. The reliable plan is a thermos and a sandwich carried up from Aurland.
Tied to Stegastein
Stegastein is a viewpoint, not a town. There is no café, no kiosk, and nothing for sale at the top — just a car park and a seasonal public toilet with a fjord view. Whatever you want up here, you carry up with you.
That is not a hardship. The stop is short — you walk the platform, take it in, and drive back down before the cloud comes in — so a thermos of coffee and something in the daypack is all it asks for.
What we plan to do
Pack a thermos of coffee and two smørbrød (open-face sandwiches) in Flåm or Aurland before the drive up. Eat standing at the rail with the fjord six hundred metres below.
