There is no shop on the Nærøyfjord itself. The canonical fjord purchase is a paper one: a 1:50,000 Turkart hiking sheet of the Aurland area, printed from Kartverket survey data and sold at the Flåm-area shops, the visitor centre, and most Norwegian bookshops. Kartverket — the Norwegian state mapping agency, founded 1773 — produces what cartographers regard as among the best topographical survey data in Europe. Every farm marked, every contour line, every named stream.
A 1:50,000 of a UNESCO site that is mostly water and rock is a better souvenir than a postcard. Unfolds large enough to cover a kitchen table.
