Torstein, Anne Ma, Baard Olav, and Grethe in the States
In 1994, Torstein, Anne Ma, Baard Olav and Grethe visited the United States visiting Minnesota then North Dakota for the “Reunion of the Prairie” that Ray wrote about in his 1993 Letter to his siblings. They stayed a few days in Rochester and in Richfield where Kirsten and David had a house. They were able to take part in two “Beard Reunions.” One was at the home of Ruth Drake in St. Paul and the other was out on the North Dakota Prairie. Dave and Kirsten drove Baard Olav and Grethe to North Dakota. Along the way the group made a stop to see Ida Freitag in Enderlin, North Dakota. When Ida was a girl, she could remember Baard Jensen living with her mother Hanna and her family. We were able to see the grave stone where Baard Jensen is buried. After the “Party on the Prairie” concluded, Ivy Tischler accompanied the group on a trip out west to see the Black Hills of South Dakota including Mount Rushmore and then all the way out to Yellowstone National Park where both Buffalo and Old Faithful are.
